Craig Stoddart professional portrait with bass guitar

Craig Stoddart is a multi-instrumentalist and freelance session musician based in Edinburgh, Scotland. A graduate of Edinburgh Napier University with a Bachelor's Degree in Popular Music, he is a versatile bassist and tenor saxophonist.

Beginning with piano lessons at the age of ten before transitioning to the tenor saxophone, Craig has held a keen commitment to music from a young age. He was a member of the Dumfries Youth Jazz Band for several years, during which he first discovered a love for live performance. Craig took up drums in high school before settling on bass guitar in his final year. Initially self-taught, he was accepted into the Popular Music Program at Edinburgh Napier University in 2013, where he sought to hone and refine his abilities as a musician.

Since moving to Edinburgh, Craig has established himself both within the local scene and across wider Scotland and has performed at several prominent festivals across the country including Celtic Connections, Eden Festival, Kelburn Garden Party , Hidden Door Arts Festival and King Tut's New Year Revolution. Craig enjoys playing music of all styles and believes in being as facilitative and accommodating as possible to help others achieve their musical goals and visions; whether it be in the studio or on the stage.

Having studied jazz theory from a young age, Craig is a capable sight-reader and improviser; comfortable in a wide variety of musical styles including jazz, funk, pop, folk/Americana, metal and electronica. His adaptability and flexibility make him ideal for function work. Craig is experienced  in using Logic Pro, Pro Tools and Ableton Live and is always searching  for new and exciting ways to enhance his live performances through incorporating music technology.

Inspired by experimental electronica artists such as Jojo Mayer's NERVE  and Submotion Orchestra, Craig applies electronic synthesis to the bass guitar. Through use of effects pedals, he is able to emulate a wide variety of synth bass sounds in real time; creating an exciting dynamic for live electronic music  performances.

Craig plays bass for Annie BoothPainting Rockets and Desiign.

As a saxophonist, he performs with Harry & The Hendersons, Tinderbox Orchestra, Stankstorm and the Zigzag big band
